Legal Assistant
Location: Harlingen, TX

Walsh Gallegos Kyle Robinson & De Los Santos P.C.  is a law firm devoted to supporting public education and other governmental entities.  We have been working in partnership with leaders in public education and other governmental entities since 1983 and strive to make a difference in the boardroom, the courtroom, and the classroom. We have an excellent career opportunity for a Legal Assistant in our Harlingen office to support 3 attorneys in employment law, student discipline, governance and various matters in education. This position also provides support in litigation, including managing the litigation discovery process, document collection and preservation, document review, document production tasks, and maintaining case filing and discovery databases.

 

The Legal Assistant position supports attorneys in managing daily administrative and clerical tasks, including:

  • Calendaring and scheduling
  • File management, including document collection, organization, and preservation
  • Editing, drafting, and formatting correspondence, documents and PowerPoint presentations
  • Verbal and written communication with clients, coworkers and internal firm departments
  • Processing expense reimbursements, check requests and other miscellaneous administrative tasks
  • Document review, document production including pleadings, discovery documents and general litigation support
  • Provide assistance with e-filing

  • Excellent attention to detail, proofing and editing skills

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Executive Assistant in a professional work environment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe
  • Experience with Nitro or similar PDF software is a plus
  • Experience with education, contracts and administrative hearings, litigation processes and insurance defense dockets is a plus
  • High school diploma or equivalent

The position calls for an attorney who can successfully work to defend public schools and other governmental entities on issues involving special education/disability rights litigation as well as provide advice and consultation to public schools in special education/disability rights.  A background in special education as well as public speaking experience and strong interpersonal skills is a plus, as is experience representing governmental entities in federal litigation.
