Yamel was raised by a family of educators in Brownsville, Texas where she attended both public and charter schools. It was from watching her mother work as an elementary teacher over the last eighteen years that Yamel developed a deep appreciation and respect for the work and sacrifice that goes into educating our youth.

Prior to law school, Yamel attended St. Mary’s University where she participated in the student government association and volunteered with Communities in Schools as a mentor for at-risk youth. Yamel graduated Cum Laude from St. Mary’s University School of Law where she served as a staff writer and associate editor for The Scholar: St. Mary’s Law Review on Race and Social Justice. She was on the St. Mary’s National Trial team where she competed and participated in competitions in both Texas and Louisiana.

Upon graduating from law school, she took the Texas Uniform Bar Exam and joined Walsh Gallegos in the Summer of 2026 with the goal of serving her community by collaborating with school districts to guide them towards excellence.
