Districts of Innovations—It’s Time to Reflect and Reauthorize

In 2015, the Texas Legislature authorized a mechanism in which school districts could free themselves from certain legislative mandates that otherwise hampered the districts’ ability to become more “innovative.”  In the following years, hundreds of school districts have taken advantage of the opportunity to become Districts of Innovation.  But local innovation plans must be renewed after five years.  This presentation will examine the hits and misses in the local innovation process, and cover the legal elements of what a district must do to renew its plan.
